Security Feature

What Do WordPress Security Services Include?

WordPress security services are ongoing, hands-on protection for a WordPress site: a security audit, hardening of the server and WordPress settings, managed updates, a firewall, monitoring, tested backups and a plan for incidents. The goal is simple. Stop the two attacks that hit most WordPress sites, which the official hardening guide names as exploit requests against outdated plugins and brute-force password guessing, and know within minutes if something changes.

This page is about prevention. If your site is already showing spam, redirects or a browser warning, go straight to WordPress malware removal or read how to fix a hacked WordPress website. If you want general help with content, bugs and small changes, our WordPress support service covers that. If you prefer to do it yourself, our free guide on how to secure a WordPress website walks through the basics.

Security audit

What do we check in a WordPress security audit?

Every engagement starts with an audit. You get a written list of findings, ranked by risk, with the fix for each. These are the areas we check on every site.

Each item maps to guidance in the official WordPress hardening guide, so you can verify our recommendations against the source.

  • WordPress core version

Only the latest WordPress release is actively supported. At the time of writing that is WordPress 7.1.3, released October 6, 2026 with seven security fixes.

  • Plugins and themes

We list every plugin and theme, flag ones with known vulnerabilities or no recent updates, and remove anything inactive. Unused code is still attack surface.

  • PHP and database versions

WordPress recommends PHP 8.3 or newer and MySQL 8.0+ or MariaDB 10.11+. Old PHP versions no longer get security patches from the PHP project.

  • Users, roles and passwords

We review every admin account, remove stale ones, apply least-privilege roles and turn on two-factor authentication for anyone who can publish or install code.

  • File permissions and ownership

Folders at 755 and files at 644, as the hardening guide recommends, with wp-config.php locked down further and the web server unable to rewrite core files.

  • wp-config.php and the dashboard editor

Secret keys rotated, debug output off in production, and DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT set so a stolen admin login cannot edit PHP from the dashboard.

  • Firewall and login protection

A web application firewall at the edge or on the server, rate limiting on wp-login.php and XML-RPC, and bot filtering that doesn't block real customers.

  • Backups

Daily off-site backups kept separate from the hosting account, and a restore test. A backup you have never restored is a hope, not a plan.

  • Logging and file-change monitoring

Activity logs for logins and changes, plus alerts when core, plugin or theme files change outside a planned update.

  • Hosting and isolation

We check whether other sites on the same account or server can reach yours, how SFTP and SSH access work, and whether HTTPS is enforced everywhere.

Plugin or service

Is a security plugin enough, or do you need a security service?

A good security plugin is part of the answer, but it can't do the whole job. Here is what each one covers.

TaskSecurity plugin on its ownInfyways security service
Scan files for known malwareYes, on a scheduleYes, plus a manual review of anything flagged
Apply core, plugin and theme updatesOnly if you click updateTested on staging, then applied with a rollback point
Fix server settings (PHP, permissions, SFTP)No, plugins can't change the serverYes, with your host or on your server
Read alerts and decide what to doYou read themA senior engineer reads them and acts
Remove a vulnerable plugin your site depends onNoYes, we find a safe replacement or patch it
Respond to an incidentNoYes: contain, clean, find the entry point, report
Explain the risk to your team or clientNoYes, a monthly report in plain English

Common security plugins include Wordfence, Sucuri Security and Solid Security. Which one fits depends on your host and whether you already use an edge firewall such as Cloudflare.

What you get

WordPress Security Services We Provide

Pick the full managed service or just the pieces you need. Every task is logged and reported.

Security audit

A full review of core, plugins, themes, users, server settings and backups, delivered as a ranked list of fixes.

Hardening

We apply the audit fixes: permissions, wp-config.php, file editing off, security headers, XML-RPC rules and login limits.

Managed updates

Core, plugin and theme updates tested on staging first, applied with a rollback point, and verified on the live site.

Firewall and bot protection

WAF set up at the edge or on the server, tuned so checkout, forms and APIs keep working.

Monitoring and alerts

Uptime, file-change, blocklist and login monitoring, with a human checking every alert.

Backups and restore tests

Daily off-site backups and scheduled restore tests, so recovery takes minutes instead of days.

Incident response

If something gets through, we contain it, clean it, close the entry point and tell you exactly what happened.

WooCommerce security

Extra care for stores: admin access, payment plugin updates, order data, PCI-aware settings and checkout testing after each change.

Our approach

How a WordPress Security Engagement Works

From first access to steady-state monitoring, in six steps.

01

1. Access and NDA

We sign an NDA if you need one and agree on access: a named admin account, SFTP or SSH, and hosting panel access where needed.

02

2. Audit

We review core, plugins, themes, users, server configuration, backups and logs, without making changes to the live site.

03

3. Report and priorities

You get a written report that ranks each finding by risk and explains the fix in plain English.

04

4. Harden on staging

We apply fixes on a staging copy first, test key journeys like login, forms and checkout, then deploy.

05

5. Monitor

Uptime, file changes, logins and blocklists are monitored, and every alert is reviewed by an engineer.

06

6. Respond and report

If an incident happens we follow a set playbook, and each month you get a short report of what changed.

See our work

Senior engineers, not a ticket queue

A senior engineer replies within 12 hours and stays with your site, so you never re-explain your setup.

Staging first, always

Updates and hardening are tested on a copy before they touch your live site, with a rollback point every time.

Server and code, together

Many security problems sit in PHP versions, permissions or hosting setup. We fix those too, not just the plugin layer.

Plain-English reporting

Every month you see what we updated, what we blocked and what still needs a decision from you.
