What Is a Joomla Module?
A Joomla module is a lightweight extension that renders a block of content in a template position such as a sidebar, header or footer. Menus, login forms, latest article lists and banners are all modules. Because modules are assigned to positions and menu items in the administrator, they are the quickest way to put a feature on exactly the pages where it belongs.
Our Joomla module development service builds custom modules for Joomla 4, 5 and 6, and rebuilds Joomla 3 modules on the current architecture. When the feature needs its own pages and database tables, it becomes a Joomla component; when it needs to react to events in the background, it becomes a Joomla plugin. All three are covered by our Joomla extension development services.
Joomla 4, 5 and 6 architecture
How a Joomla 5 or 6 module is built
Since Joomla 4, modules follow the same namespaced, service-provider based structure that Joomla 5 and 6 use. These are the parts of every module we build, whether it is a small content module or an API-driven widget.
Manifest XML
mod_example.xml declares the extension type (module), the client (site or administrator), the version, the PHP namespace and the files and folders to install. Module settings are defined as fields in its config section and appear in the module editor automatically.
Service provider
services/provider.php is the entry point since Joomla 4. It registers the module's dispatcher factory and, where needed, a helper factory with Joomla's dependency injection container, so there is no mod_example.php bootstrap file any more.
Namespaced PHP classes
Classes live under src/ and follow PSR-4, for example Vendor\Module\Example\Site\Dispatcher\Dispatcher. The namespace is declared once in the manifest and Joomla's autoloader finds the classes from there.
Dispatcher and helper
The Dispatcher extends AbstractModuleDispatcher and prepares the data the layout needs in getLayoutData(). Database queries, API calls and other logic belong in a helper class, created through the helper factory so it can be reused and tested.
Layouts and overrides
tmpl/default.php renders the HTML and receives the module, params, app and the data from the dispatcher. Site builders can copy it to templates/your-template/html/mod_example/ as an override, so design changes survive module updates.
Language files, assets and caching
Strings go in language/en-GB/mod_example.ini and .sys.ini, CSS and JavaScript are registered through the Web Asset Manager, and the module honors Joomla's caching and access level settings so it behaves like a core module.

What you get
Joomla Modules We Build
From a simple content block to a widget that pulls live data from an external API, these are the kinds of Joomla modules we develop most often.
Content and listing modules
Article lists, featured items, category menus, tag clouds and custom fields output in the exact layout your design needs.
Database-driven modules
Modules that read from Joomla tables or custom tables, with filtering, sorting, pagination and caching that respects Joomla's cache settings.
API and third-party modules
Widgets that fetch data from CRMs, booking systems, weather or pricing APIs and render it in a Joomla position, with timeouts and caching handled properly.
Form and interaction modules
Newsletter sign-ups, quick quote forms, search boxes and calculators, with CSRF protection and server-side validation.
Administrator modules
Dashboard modules for the Joomla back end that show statistics, pending tasks or data from your component to editors and managers.
Module upgrades and rebuilds
Joomla 3 modules rewritten for the Joomla 4, 5 and 6 architecture, and abandoned third-party modules fixed or replaced.
Our approach
How We Develop a Joomla Module
Six steps from requirements to an installable package that keeps working through Joomla updates.
1. Requirements and positions
We agree what the module shows, where it appears, which pages and access levels it applies to, and which Joomla versions it must support.
2. Data and settings design
We define the data source, the module parameters editors can change and how caching should behave.
3. Development
Manifest, service provider, dispatcher, helper, layout and language files built on the Joomla 4, 5 and 6 structure and the Joomla coding standards.
4. Layout and template override
The layout is styled to your template, and we document how to override it so your designers can adjust it later.
5. Testing
Tested on a staging copy of your site with caching on, across access levels and languages, and with PHP error reporting enabled.
6. Installation and support
You receive an installable package and documentation. We install it if you prefer and keep it working through future Joomla updates.
