How to enable, disable and clear cache in Joomla?

Joomla by default has cache option which helps in speeding up the site and load faster. The visited pages, images, css get stored in your local disk. When you visit the page again it gets loaded from the hard disk without downloading the information again from internet. As a result the page load faster on repetitive visits. The temporary files helps in improving performance of the website. This is one of the best feature that Joomla offers. A plugin called System – Page Cache does the work.

How to enable Page Cache in Joomla?

Page Cache is a feature available in Joomla 2.5, Joomla 3.x and Joomla 4.x.  You can be enable it by following steps :

  1. Login to the backend of your Joomla website.
  2. Go to menu Extensions > Plugins and click on it.
  3. In the Plugin section search for Page Cache
  4. By default it is set to disable, click on it and set it to Enabled.
  5. The plugin also has the option to exclude Menu items where you don’t wish the plugin to work or cache.

How to disable Page Cache in Joomla?

Disabling the page cache is just the reverse of enabling it. Its simple just do the following :

  1. Login to the Joomla administrator dashboard.
  2. Go to Extensions > Plugins menu and click it.
  3. In the plugin section search for System- Page Cache plugin.
  4. Open it and set it to disable.

How to clear Page Cache in Joomla?

You may sometimes see that the changes which you do in the backend or administrator doesn’t get reflected in the frontend. Its due to the Joomla Page Cache plugin. To clear the cache follow the steps below.

  1. Login to the admin panel of your Joomla website.
  2. Go to the menu System > Clear Cache
  3. Select all the Cache Group and click on the Delete All button on the top.
