How to manage component categories in Joomla page?

Components are the main functional unit of Joomla. It is a kind of Joomla extension. An easy analogy would be that Joomla is the operating system and the components are desktop applications. Components are usually displayed in the center of the main content area of a template. The components have two main parts: a site part and an administrator part. The administrator part provides an interface to manage and configure different aspects of the component and is accessible through the Joomla administrator application. The site part is what is used to render pages when being called during normal site operation. You also have Categories in Joomla 3. Each time you create an article, component or other content type you can assign it to a category. It can give you more options for structuring your content. You can group similar articles in one category and create a page that displays the intros of all the articles. Read through to know how to manage component categories in Joomla page.Categories for articles are created in order to allow you to group your content better. You should add article Categories to group your content if you have different types of pages on your site, or you write on different topics. All the article categories can be managed through the Content manager. For adding a new category

  • Go to Content
  • Then click on Category Manager
  • Then Add New Category

Categories don’t have a lot of properties. You can write a brief description of each one of them if you plan to have many categories, in order to avoid mistakes when you add articles to them. However, you can simply add Title for your category and press the Save button. Now, when you add new articles to your website, they can be chosen to belong to the newly created category.

Many Joomla 3 components utilize the use of categories. However, you can organize the feeds you display on your website in different categories. They work in a similar way as the ones for your articles, but here the categories are located in the individual component’s menu. The only difference between article and component categories is that you’re redirected directly to the categories manager for that component when you choose the categories menu for the particular component, Here, in order to add a category you need to press the green new button. This page is exactly the same as the one used for article categories that is  add Category Title, Description is optional, and then click  the save button. You can now use the newly created category to group your component items.

You need to use the Joomla Menu functionality if you want to list your categories on your website. First, add a new item to the menu. Go to Menus -> Main Menu -> Add New Menu Item. Then click on the Select button next to the Menu Item Type label to choose what kind of menu you want to add. Here we will add a menu item, which will display all the categories of articles we have previously added. For this expand the Articles section and press List All Categories.
