How to convert your website to Joomla 3.x?

Creating websites is not as difficult as you think. This is probably what you have read when you were first looking for making website. You tried making website and you have probably succeeded in doing so. You might have learned HTML, complicated CSS, a little bit of graphic design and maybe a bit of coding. In the end, you might have found yourself with a nice looking, useful website. But the difficult begins when you try to maintain the website. Maintaining an HTML website is a very difficult task. So, how would you convert your static HTML website to a Joomla website? This is the content of this post. The basic notion involved here is converting each of the pages in your website into an article in Joomla. The process might seem a bit long, but in actuality it is a fairly straightforward task.

The whole process can be divided into two broad steps- 1) importing the data that you have in your website. 2) To mimic the design of website with Joomla. So, let’s get on with the first step. Once you have added data into the system, the other processes are fairly easy to carry out. Here are some of the steps that you can follow to convert your website to Joomla.

Step 1: Create the Menu

In the Menu manager, create a new Menu. Once you click the big ‘+’ sign, you would be asked to enter the details of the menu. These details consist of things like, Title of the menu and a description. Remember that the name of the menu should be unique, because you would have to use it later.

Step 2: Customize the menu

Once the menu is created, the next step would be to add items to this menu. You need to add only one item i.e. ‘Home’. Once you have selected this, you would be asked to choose the type of menu items. Choose ‘articles’ in the drop down menu, and choose ‘front page blog layout’. Save these. After you have done customizing the menu items, choose ‘Default option’ for the menu.

Step 3: Adding the module

Once you are done with the above steps, go to the extension manager and then add a module. Create a new module and attach it to the menu. Then give a suitable name to this module and then enable the module. Once you have done this, the next step would be to add the text and hence the content from your older website. All you need now is the knowledge of how to add articles in a Joomla, which is a fairly simple.
