Configure Flat Tax Rate & Flat Tax Class in Magento

This tutorial is a continuation of our Tax on Shipping series. It will cover topics on how to configure flat tax rate and flat tax class in Magento shopping cart. Our previous tutorial of this series dealt with the highest and lowest tax rate in Magento online carts. If you wish to know how to configure them, then here is the link.

How to configure Flat Tax Rate & Flat Tax Class

Steps to Configure Flat Tax Rate in Magento Shopping Cart

  • Log in to your Magento store backend after entering the correct credentials
  • From the Admin Panel, select System > Configuration
  • In the Configuration Panel, under Sales, select tax (VAT)
  • Next, click to expand the Tax on Shipping section and carry out the following steps:
  1. Set Enabled to Yes
  2. Set Totaling algorithm to ‘Flat tax rate on the taxable cart.’
  • Click the Save Config button to save the changes made

Steps to Configure Flat Tax Class for Delivery

  • From the Admin Panel, select System > Configuration
  • In the Configuration Panel, under Sales, select tax (VAT)
  • Click to expand the Tax Classes section
  • Next, set Tax Class for Delivery to the appropriate rate
  • Click the Save Config button to save the changes made

Steps to See the Results in the Shopping Cart

  • From the store, log in to your customer account
  • Add some products to the shopping cart for testing purpose
  • Set country to ‘India’ in the Estimate Delivery and VAT section
  • Enter the Postal Code and click the Get a Quote button
  • Select the Delivery Method and click the Update Total link
